Problem: How do I upgrade my 1.X version of Tyrian to the 2.0 version? Solution: Since most of the files in Tyrian v2.0 have been updated or rewritten, a v2.0 patch will not be available. Because of this, Epic is offering v2.0 of Tyrian to registered users at cost for only $5 + $4 P&H. To order your upgrade please call us at 1-800-972-7434. Shareware users can download the updated shareware version from ftp.epicgames.com. Problem: Tyrian crashes with Runtime Error 216 when the boss and I die simultaneously. Solution: This was a bug in v1.X of Tyrian and has been corrected in v2.0. Solution: This is caused by a timing conflict with the newer chips. To correct this download MoSlo. Unzip Moslo to a new directory on you hard drive, and read the documentation for more detailed instructions how to use MoSlo. Problem: My keyboard response with v1.X is erratic Solution: Run Tyrian by typing FILE0001 NOKEY. Tyrian normally redirects the BIOS interrupt. On some computers this may cause problems. The NOKEY forces keys to be sent on to the BIOS after Tyrian reads them. Problem: My keyboard periodically freezes with v2.0 Solution: This is a problem we discovered shortly after the release of v2.0. Download the Tyrian v2.01 patch to correct this problem. Problem: When I use my joystick it crashes the game and prevents me from playing. Solution: In the unlikely event that Tyrian is not compatible with your joystick or using a joystick causes Tyrian to crash, use the NOJOY parameter. This will disable Tyrian's joystick routine and should solve the problem. Problem: When I run Tyrian from CD on my new Acer computer I get Runtime Error 100. Solution: Tyrian is looking for a "TYRIAN" directory on your CD drive. However, because it is scanning your drives in order, it is locating the "TYRIAN" directory on your C: drive. Since the data files in this directory are not compatible with the most recent version of Tyrian, a Runtime Error will occur. To solve the problem, you can either delete your Acer version of Tyrian or rename the directory. Solution: This error occurs when updating the special Acer version of Tyrian with the 1.1 patch. The fixes contained in the 1.1 patch are not applicable to the Acer version of Tyrian and will cause the game to operate improperly. If you have installed the 1.1 patch on top of your Acer version of Tyrian, you will need to reinstall the game from the original backup provided by Acer. PROBLEM : What are the advanced options I can use with Tyrian? SOLUTION : The following is a list of advanced options for Tyrian. -ADDR : To manually specify the port address, enter this
parameter, followed by the port address. NOTE: You must include the (-) at the beginning of the advanced option you are adding. Problem: I can't get MIDI to work with my Gravis UltraSound. Solution: You must load your ULTRAMID driver. Without this driver, your GUS will not play MIDI music. Problem: Tyrian locks when ever I run the game and now I can't get back into SETUP Solution: Try deleting the file TYRIAN.CFG. If you have v1.1 or greater, try using the NOSOUND parameter. Problem: I can't get Tyrian to detect my AWE 32 at port 620h Solution: Early versions of Tyrian would only recognize AWE32 MIDI at port 620h. This has been corrected in Version 2.0. This version detects the AWE32 at all possible ports. Problem: Tyrian will not allow me to run my MIDI card at 300h. Solution: You are running v1.0 of Tyrian. Port 300h for MIDI is available in Tyrian v1.1 and greater. Problem: My sound card is set to DMA 0 or 3 and I don't get any sound. Solution: You are running an older version of Tyrian. The latest version of Tyrian supports both DMA 0 and 3.
Problem: Ship Editor crashes with the AWE 32. Solution: This is a bug in the ship editor. You will need to select no sound card in SETUP to get the editor to run. Be sure to rerun the SETUP before you go back into the game. |
