What do you think of Carser? Please rate the game below on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest score.
Carser is an arcade style top-down racing game. Its development history dates back to 1997 when the first demo was released, but in 1998 the author put the project on hold and only resumed it in 2022. The current release is a full-featured game with adjustable difficulty levels, selectable user profiles with savegame slots, music and sound effects, and a level editor.
There are 20 levels in Carser, each presenting a different challenge. For example, in once scenario you need to drive through a thick herd of cows and rams, and race against a train in another. The objective is to get through all checkpoints and finish each track in the shortest time possible, preferably without any penalties which are accrued for careless driving like hitting trees, animals, driving over flowers etc. The car can take damage and fuel is limited, but there are repair shops and fuel stations found in the levels which can fix that, while stopping at a hotel restores the driver's fatigue. It is possible to completely wreck the car or drown it in a body of water, but the game will restore the player just before this happening, although this will count against the time and the total score.
The resulting game is easy to learn, but challenging and fun to play. Carser is released as freeware under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Players are invited to send their high scores to the developer to be published on the official site.
