Press F1 to fire the weapon (it will take a while to recharge). Take care not to get crushed by falling gold sacks, but use them to dispose of the monsters.

Description (by MrFlibble)
Digger by Windmill Software (not to be confused with a different Digger that was inspired by Boulder Dash) is a classic arcade title where the player controls a subterranean digging machine on the quest to collect emeralds and other valuables, while trying to avoid hostile creatures that populate the tunnels. These come in two varieties: Nobbins can only travel through already existing tunnels, while Hobbins can dig through ground on their own.
Each level takes up one screen and will generate a certain number of Nobbins and Hobbins. The level when all emeralds are collected, but if the player dispatches all monsters, bonus items will appear for extra score points.
The playable demo includes only the first two levels of the full game, and will not save the high score table. In 1999, programmer Andrew Jenner recreated the game for DOS and other platforms with high resolution graphics and other enhancements. This version is called Digger Remastered and is available for free.
