Game description

Lizard is an open world platform game originally developed for NES, but later ported to PC and other systems. The main character is apparently a human who can wear different lizard skins (or perhaps costumes) which grant various abilities, such as being able to jump higher. swim better, breathe fire or turn into stone to avoid harm.

The starting lizard is the Lizard of Knowledge whose special power is the ability to read various hints. Other lizard skins can be found later throughout the world, which is huge and non-linear. Some areas can be only accessed when a specific lizard type is found, like the one which can jump very high, swim or surf across bodies of water. The game world is also populated with various creatures, and direct contact with most of these should be avoided, and some areas contain other hazards like lava flows.

Lizard was developed as a homebrew NES game and recreates the aesthetics and ethos of the platform. The full version for all available platforms can be purchased from the author's website, which also includes the source code. The source code of the demo version is freely available.
