Game description

M.U.G.E.N is a versatile, high-performance versus fighting engine that is highly customisable, allowing users to create their own 2D fighting games by supplying their own characters, stage backgrounds and other game assets. The default package only includes one sample character, the Kung Fu Man, and his stage, the dojo, but is fully playable. More characters can be added from user-created packs.

M.U.G.E.N swiftly became very popular with players, and dozens of character and stage packs were created (often using art from commercial fighting games), as well as a few complete stand-alone games. However, developer Elecbyte originally prohibited to distribute the engine itself by third parties without their permission. This was changed later on as project development continued.

Because of this license limitation, you will need to download the DOS version of M.U.G.E.N from the original Elecbyte website, preserved by the Wayback Machine. In its current state, M.U.G.E.N powers several Windows-native stand-alone free fighting games (please see the download links section below).
