Game description
Purple Martians is a free, open source side-scrolling platform/shooting game that might not have the best graphics, but is actually quite playable and challenging.
The eponymous Purple Martian is armed with a gun and must navigate various levels filled with vegetation/vegetarianism-themed enemies to escape a hostile planet. Apart from the usual jumping and shooting, there are extra elements such as explosives and useful items that the protagonist can carry around to help reach certain parts of the levels.
Purple Martian was released as freeware along with its source code. There are 35 levels.
