Game description

This is a very ambitious space combat and trading simulation game. Unlike many other space sims, here the player is in charge of an entire space battlecruiser, and can also optionally pilot interceptors in combat missions. There is a sandbox mode, a campaign mode and an interceptor-only space combat mode, all set in a vast universe populated by various alien races, some friendly or neutral, and others openly hostile.

Battlecruiser 3000AD had a very turbulent development history. A project that was very ambitious in its scope from the start, because of its prolonged development and rushed initial release it received a lot of flak from the gaming press and players alike. The game was developed since 1992 and launched in 1996, but, still finding much room for improvement, author Derek Smart released the original version 1.0 as freeware in early 1998, as a tribute to the players and a way to expand the fanbase while the much-updated version 2.0 was in the works.
