Game description
Grange Murders was a cancelled graphical adventure game of the murder mystery type. The player controls Sam, a private investigator invited to a family event at an estate sometime in the 1920s, and one of the guests is murdered, so the player must find out who did it.
The game features remarkably detailed scenes and large, well-animated characters. Sam is controlled with the arrow keys (preferably on the numeric keypad), but available actions like examine an item or talk to a character are called from the menu, rather than typed in a parser as was common in many other games of the era. Grange Murders was supposed to have not just multiple endings, but actually multiple plots where different characters would be the victim and the culprit each time you played.
Unfortunately, development of Grange Murders was cancelled before the game was completed, and Level 9 Computing closed its doors soon after. Thankfully, one of the company's co-founders Mike Austin made playable previews and all development materials available under the Apache 2.0 license in 2025. There are two DOS previews with some differences between, fully interactive but probably not playable to completion.
