Game description

Tyrian is possibly one of the best shoot-'em-ups to grace the PC platform, at leas in the nineties. It offers high quality visuals, excellent soundtrack, challenging gameplay and nearly endless replay value thanks to the different customisations, gameplay modes and secret bonuses.

The default mode tells the story of a lone prospector pilot Trent Hawkins who is thrust in the thick of a Galaxy-spanning conspiracy full of intrigue, treachery and sinister plots. Earn credits to upgrade your ship and its systems, and collect data cubes to learn the details of this story. The campaign is non-linear with branching mission trees, split into four episodes. Or, blast your way through in the arcade mode where you collect bonuses to increase firepower in mid-flight, just in the good old days!

The game was originally sold as shareware by Epic MegaGames, then re-released as Tyrian 2000 in 1999. Eventually, the authors made the full game free, and delegated the source code to a group of developers to create a source port. Thanks to this, Tyrian can be now played directly on Windows and other platforms without the need to resort to DOSBox.
