Game description
This is an extremely, I repeat, extremely violent side-scrolling platform/shooter game that is actually quite playable. The skinny of the story is that the unscrupulous US military kidnapped a perfectly ordinary guy as an unwilling subject in a top-secret project to create a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier. But something goes wrong and the cyborg awakens prematurely to wreak havoc on the lab and the military base, out of revenge or maybe because he doesn't know any better.
The player controls the cyborg (aptly known as Urban), and your primary means of interacting with the environment is a gun with bottomless magazines. Other weapons may be found further along the way. Each level requires you to find keycards and navigate your way to the exit. Unarmed scientists, government agents, various military personnel and other characters stand in Urban's way to freedom. You can spare the scientists or mow them down for extra points, all other targets seem fair game as they will open fire on Urban as soon as they see him. There's also a good amount of platform jumping that might not be easy to get into, as the player character can move sideways like in beat-'em-ups, adding an extra dimension to the equation.
U.R.B.A.N The Cyborg Project was released as freeware, and the source code of the game is available under the GNU GPL license.
